Our club's STRIVE scholarship for young people just got better. The new Woodbury & Gunderson Family Rotary STRIVE Scholarship was announced at the Rotary meeting on Sept. 13. Heidi Gunderson, owner and president of Woody’s Rebar Company in Vadnais Heights, donated $25,000 to match $25,000 from the White Bear Lake Rotary STRIVE Committee. The $50,000 will be invested with the Century College Foundation to provide a scholarship for a White Bear Lake High School student attending Century College. The STRIVE Scholarship is awarded each year to a senior student participating in the STRIVE program who has the greatest increase in his or her GPA over the year. The STRIVE program was created by Don Mooney in 1989. Heidi Gunderson has a close connection -- she was the the first STRIVE Scholar recipient in 1991.
