Wilson Tool's Role in our Economy
Apr 22, 2020 7:30 AM
This was a great look into the tool and dye industry; Wilson keeps a quiet profile locally, but it is a BIG player in its production, making things for agriculture, the military and automotive industry for starters. Ken and Ruth Wilson founded the company. The White Bear headquarters has 30,000 square feet of space and 450 employees. Wilson basically makes the tool that makes the end product. For example, it just landed a contract with the company that makes the highly recognizable UPS trucks. Wilson emphasized the family atmosphere and “bottom-up” culture of the company, saying it’s made for good work and good jobs. The average wage is $33 an hour. Lawless has legitimate concerns about the next generation of workers. Says there is a stigma attached to the trades that keeps some young people from getting in — so much of society fixates on college after high school. Also he said there are Minnesota age hiring restrictions that keep places like Wilson from getting kids in early and getting them on their way to advancement and success in business and life. |

May 02, 2020 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Hello fellow Rotarians, Some of us in the Wine Fellowship are going to be doing a Virtual Wine and Food Pairing event. The event is planned for this Saturday, May 2, starting at 6:30 pm. The format we’re planning is this: I have written a paper titled Food and Wine Pairing 101, which I will email to each participant in advance. Every couple (or single) will be asked to pick a dish they want/like to prepare and then pick a wine they think will match up well with it, or visa versa (pick the wine first and pair the food). The idea is to keep it very simple. At the event we will have everyone take about 5 minutes to introduce their dish and why they feel it is a good match with the wine they chose. There is no right or wrong! And if you have a nice story to share about the wine and/or dish you are encouraged to share that as well. It should be a lot of fun. We’re limited in the number of attendees we can have, so if you’d like to be a part, please let me know as soon as possible. Please rsvp to Ken Galloway at: gallowaykr@comcast.net if you plan to participate. Cheers! |
